Sacco and Vanzetti were brothers and convicted of murder and robbery. They were from Italy and were anarchists who did not like the american government. They were convicted in Massachusetts in 1920. Many believed they were innocent people and they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. People tried to fight for their innocence because some of the evidence seemed faulty and was thought to be planted.
The first piece of evidence was seven eye witnesses saying they saw the brothers kill and rob. the thing is is they could not even make a positive ID on the suspected burglars and there for that evidence was a little shaky in my opinion. If none of the eye witnesses saw them actually do the crime then really it could have been anyone that they saw doing it trying to frame Sacco and Vanzetti.
The next piece of evidence is a bullet from the crime scene. Ballistics on the prosecutors side said that bullet 3 was fired from Saccos handgun which was a colt. and the scratches from the bullet matched the imprint of the gun barrel but the defense was saying that it couldnt have been fired from Sacco's gun because it didnt link up right.
There was also a cap with a hole in it that was thought to belong to Sacco. It had the hole in it because he would always hang it on a nail and the nail eventually punctured the hat. The hat apperantly did not fit Sacco when he tried it on and the defense attornies think that the hat may have been left by the real murderers or a potential crowd member that gathered the scene after the murder.
